Al Azaybah, Al Azaiba, Udhaiba, Athaiba, or simply Azaiba, there’s plenty of variations to the way it’s said or spelled, but all those names are referring to the same place – an area we now refer to as ‘our area’.
We really enjoy living here, and there’s many reasons for that. In fact, there are so many that I feel like dedicating a whole post to the subject! So here it is. . the reasons I love living in Azaiba:
Location, location, location! Azaiba is super central! It’s smack bang in the middle of almost everything I need to get to, and roads that lead to everywhere else I need to get to.
Being in between The Sultan Qaboos and 18th November Street means getting to the MGM and The Avenues Mall is easy and quick, and that goes for City Centre too. But, and this is another great thing about the area, when I’m in a rush, or just feeling too lazy to go to any of those other shopping complexes, there’s plenty of good shops right here. . including an Al Fair, an Al Meera complex that has an Emax (electrical store), Max (clothes), shoe store, Fun Zone (soft play and arcade), a bunch of takeaway stores – including a coffee shop, and a few others too (including the new Baby Shop).
On 18th November there’s a Sultan Centre, Costa Coffee, and my favourite. . The Chedi. There’s a ton of little restaurants, and other 'local stores' everywhere. If you need it, you will find it in Azaiba.
The airport is just a five minute drive up the road (and the new airport is set to be even closer). Azaiba is not under the flight path, so we have the proximity without the noise!
AND, just in case that hasn’t convinced you of the many reasons it’s easy to love Azaiba, the beach is RIGHT THERE! *I’m pointing to it, and even though you can’t see me– I can assure you it’s very close! Wind surfing, kayaking, jet skiing, parasailing, short beach 4wding, kite-ing, shell finding, poking at various objects and creatures washed up along the waterline with a long stick (Miss L really enjoys that last one), and many other varieties of water activity, now the weather is getting cooler it also means jogging or walking along the beach is an option too!
It's also really easy to get around here. The roads offer relatively easy driving, because they’re mostly in pretty good condition, and the uncomplicated layout of the area means it’s hard to get lost. This can be a huge factor weighing in on how much you like a place, especially for anyone new to driving in Muscat.
Ok, I could probably keep going all day but I think I’ve fit in quite a lot of Azaiba-love already, and that’s honestly just because there’s so much to like about the area, and not really a great deal to dislike. I’ll wrap it up now– but before I do I will add that, personally, I am super glad we chose Azaiba, and I'm happy to recommend the area to anyone trying to decide on it! GO AZAIBA! I HEART YOU!
